*Download the lesson file from above, or read from below. It is the same material, just in two different formats. Enjoy! Jesus is the Good Shepherd Big Idea: Jesus is the good shepherd, so we should listen to His voice and follow Him. Bible Basis: John 10:1-18 Key Verse: John 10:14
Starter: Follow the Shepherd Game Play follow the leader, except instead of “the leader” call the leader “the shepherd” and the other participants “the sheep.” Explain to your kids what a shepherd is if they do not know.
Older Kids: Read John 10:1-18 Younger Kids: A shepherd’s job is to lead and watch after their sheep. The sheep trust and follow their shepherd. The Bible says the sheep “follow the shepherd because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from a stranger because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” John 10:4-5
Jesus said “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me.” John 10:14
Ask: Who is the shepherd? What makes Him a good Shepherd? Ask: Who are the sheep?
How can we know if it is God that is speaking to us? Or maybe someone else? Does what the voice is saying line up with God’s character? Is it kind/loving? Is it selfless, graceful, just, etc.?
